
Jean RISPAL
Rispal, a French designer born in 1901, founded his lighting company in the 11th arrondissement in 1924, which lasted until 1982.
He will be mainly known thanks to the creation of his “Formes Nouvelles” catalog which allowed the composition of lighting thanks to a vast choice of elements (lampshades, bases, etc.), available individually in order to personalize
maximum these elements, which particularly pleased the decorators.
Douglas Mont, a designer passionate about Rispal, decided to relaunch the eponymous brand to pay tribute to this artist, a true icon of 20th-century lighting. He even went so far as to rewrite the brand to create new pieces that would continue Rispal's codes for the future.
Jean Rispal (1923-2003) was a French designer and craftsman renowned for his lighting designs. Born in Toulouse, France, Rispal began his career in the 1940s after studying cabinetmaking and carpentry.
Rispal distinguished himself through his innovative use of wood and exceptional craftsmanship. He founded his own workshop in Paris in the 1950s, where he designed and manufactured a range of lighting fixtures with clean lines and elegant shapes.
Rispal's creations were often characterized by their organic design and ingenious use of natural materials. He helped popularize Scandinavian style and modernism in French design.
Although his fame remained relatively low-key compared to other designers of the time, Jean Rispal's works continue to be sought after by collectors and vintage design enthusiasts for their exceptional craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic.
