Robert MATHIEU
Robert Mathieu (1921-2022), designer and interior architect, studied at the École Nationale Supérieur des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He was one of the most famous lighting designers of the 1950s. His designs were primarily made from gilded or black brass with double lampshades. In 1949, he opened a boutique in Paris to sell his creations and also produced works by Michel Buffet and Jean-Boris Lacroix. He defined his creations as "rational lighting" because he focused first on functionality before form.
